Intern Reflections

As I sit here with just two days left of my internship at SOS Leadership I am beginning to reflect on the past three months. Upon starting this internship I was a very stressed-out individual. However, my time at SOS Leadership has restored my leadership in every way possible.

Many internships today consist of making copies and coffee runs and doing menial tasks that don’t have any significance at the end of the day. At SOS I had the opportunity to practice real world skills while fostering my growth and learning. While the work I did here was beneficial to my professional growth and development, I don’t for-see it as being my biggest takeaway from the past 3 months. The most important lesson I have learned over the past few months is the importance of investing in yourself and your learning.

The growth that I made in my leadership and learning during my internship has made a significant impact on my life. Internships are about more than the work you do. They are about the relationships you foster and the growth and development made along the way. That is the central reason for an internship in the first place, to learn. You don’t usually become an intern because you are going to help the company reach their bottom line. It is about the growth and learning that takes place.

As an intern at SOS Leadership I have had the opportunity to have my growth and learning invested in by my fellow co-workers through participating in programs such as the Seeds of Success Science of Personal Achievement Program. This program helped me to redefine my goals and priorities and realize What Matters Most, while challenging me to live a life of significance. The program taught me about time management, and the importance of setting goals and achieving those goals.

At the end of the day, I could have gone to any organization to intern but I am happy to have landed here at SOS Leadership. I have learned the importance of investing in my personal and professional life. I wanted to be apart of a culture that promotes growth and learning, while providing development opportunities for their employees. I have found that guidance and support here at SOS Leadership and wouldn’t trade my experience for the world.
