Two weeks ago SOS Leadership hosted the 2nd Annual Evening for Austin Leading Ladies at Concordia University Texas. That evening three finalists for the Kate Voth Award were recognized: Olivia Mayberry, Susan Patten, and Stephani Smolucha. These three ladies have made an incredible impact on the community and they are all leaders who make a difference!
Stephani Smolucha is the Annual Giving Manager for the LIVESTRONG Foundation, mentor with Explore Austin, a local non-profit that teaches leadership to local youth through outdoor adventure.
Stephanie was instrumental in creating and sustaining Team Kate, the most powerful team in LIVESTRONG history. Team Kate has raised more than $100,000 in 16 months from more than 1,100 donors. Team Kate members came together to create the Kate Voth Memorial Endowed Fund. She recently ran her first full marathon, and is looking forward to her next challenge: climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in January 2015 with a group of cancer survivors and advocates as part of Survivor Summit.
Amber Wadey had this to say, “Stephani is so gracious and giving – she has helped me realize how much more we can accomplish through compassion, caring, effective storytelling, and dedication.”
Stephani said this, “I believe that we are each capable of leading in ways that serve others. Whether it’s going back to school, applying for your dream job, mentoring underserved youth, or running a marathon — find what makes you passionate, and don’t be afraid to take a leap of faith. Through the simple acts of sharing our stories and challenging ourselves to redefine limits, we can each bring our leadership to life. Kate truly lived, and brought her leadership to life each day. I am so grateful to have known her, and will never forget what she taught me. Those lessons extend far beyond the marathon course.”
Stephani is truly a Leading Lady of Inspiration!
About the Kate Voth Award ~ In 2013 at the 1st Annual Evening for Austin Leading Ladies, SOS Leadership presented the Leading Lady of Inspiration Award to Kate Voth. Kate was an incredible leader, a woman of optimism, strength, and courage. She was a leader in every sense of the word, and she inspired every person who met her. On June 1, 2013, less than three months after we honored her and were moved by her emotional speech, Kate passed away at age 27 after a valiant battle with cancer. There is a hole in all of our hearts, and yet her powerful leadership legacy lives on. Thus, we have renamed the Leading Lady of Inspiration Award the Kate Voth Award in honor of one of the most inspiring leaders we’ve ever known.
