It’s no secret that the vast majority of people give up on their New Year’s resolutions by February. There are many reasons for this, but one is because people often fail to understand what is actually required to make change. Often it is much easier than we think and we overwhelm ourselves with these resolutions. The fact is, lives are changed in big ways by changing small habits.
We spend the majority of time operating based off of habit. By adjusting our habits, even in small ways, we can make a big impact on our lives. Below is a list of a few common issues that people make various resolutions about, and a simple habit change that will actually help growth in that area:
Excercise, the perennial favorite.
Habit – park farther away from work, stores, restaurants, etc. If you’re comfortable parking outside, even just parking the car across the street will get you some extra steps each day.
Laziness.
Habit – Get up with the first alarm in the morning.
Time Management.
Habit – Take 3-5 minutes after breakfast to think about the day and prioritize, and/or take 5 minutes after dinner to think about the next day’s work.
One last tip, have an accountability partner. Sharing your goals will help tremendously in accomplishing them, just make sure that you share them with someone who will be supportive!
